Objectives

LISN in order to establish itself as an observatory distributed, through geophysical instruments located in South America, has the main aims: - To build and install the first Distributed Observatory across the western half of South America and provide real-time display of observable. Data from all instruments will be transmitted in nearly real-time with a cadence of 15 minutes or less, to a central computer at the main headquarters of the Instituto Geofisico del Peru, in Lima. Data transfers may use site-dependent alternatives: phone line and a local Internet provider, DSL, cable or satellite link. - To nowcast the state of the Low-latitude ionosphere in terms of TEC, scintillations, TEC depletions, bottomside F- and E-region densities.
